Science Communication
I believe science communication is an integral part of research. We as scientists need to do a better job of creating a 2-way dialog with our target audiences that focuses just as much on understanding what their needs are and how our work can play a role, as it does on conveying why our work is important.
Let's do less telling and scolding, and more listening and engagement!
I've spent the last 15 years as a science communication practitioner and trainer, working with other scientists on how best to reach their intended audiences in ways that are relevant and culturally responsive. Over the past few years, I've focused on developing tools and strategies for creating an inclusive SciComm practice.
SciComm Trainings I’ve Developed and Led:
Building an Inclusive Science Communication Framework
Incorporating Personal Learning and Cultural Relevance in your STEM Programs
Exploring Questioning Strategies to Facilitate 2-Way Engagement
Creating a Common Vision for Your Audience
How to Identify and Address Jargon
Using Concept Mapping to Identify and Develop the Main Concepts for Your Target Audience
Incorporating Experiential Analogs in Your SciComm Engagements
