Research Interests

  • Fisheries Social Science

Motivations, perceptions, and actions of different stakeholders and actors is critical to understanding all the changes (biological, ecological, and social) we see in the marine environment. This research will help to better inform decisions about implementing conservation actions and management.

  • Conservation Behavior Change

Engaging stakeholders in conservation issues is important for maintaining the health and sustainability of our marine resources. I’m interested in investigating strategies for informing communities through targeted communications and how we can use values, beliefs, and norms to motivate long-term conservation actions.

  • Equity in STEM and SciComm

I have a passion for engaging underserved and underrepresented youth in STEM, as well developing and testing practical tools and frameworks for moving forward DEI initiatives. I am interested in researching and evaluating efforts to increase equity and inclusion for youth interested in STEM fields and to develop tools promoting inclusive SciComm.

  • Conservation Impact Evaluation

Evaluation has always been a critical component across all of my work. This research focuses on understanding what elements of conservation program implementation work, why specific interventions succeed or fail, the effects of these initiatives on communities, and how lessons learned can be applied based on place and context.
